Beta limitations
Aurora is in public beta. The product is free while it is in beta, and there are no paid plans during the beta period. Signup is open.
This page lists the limitations we want you to know before you rely on Aurora for something important. It goes with the Beta label on the website and in the app.
What beta means
- Free while beta — there is nothing to buy during the beta. We give at least 30 days' notice before any paid plan launches (see Terms). See Usage & billing for what an account includes.
- Labeled, not invite-walled — you can create a free account or try the web app without one. Known limits are listed here instead of hidden behind a waitlist.
- What you read here is live — these docs describe the released app, not features that are still being built.
Encryption scope
End-to-end encryption (E2EE) covers the main page content, titles, property values, comments, workspace chat messages, and uploaded files and images when E2EE is on.
It does not cover every piece of structural information the service needs to sync and operate, such as which workspace a page belongs to, who is a member, and sync bookkeeping. Treat E2EE as strong protection for your content and attachments, not as “the entire workspace is invisible to the server.”
Encrypted workspaces also do not keep version history.
See Security & encryption and the Privacy Policy for the current wording.
Update to Aurora 0.12.0 by 15 October 2026
From 15 October 2026, encrypted workspaces on AuroraCloud need Aurora 0.12.0 or later on every device; older apps can still read but their saves are refused until you update. If that happens, Settings → Data & sync → Sync and the sync panel tell you that an update is needed. Workspaces without encryption are not affected.
Desktop platforms
The desktop app is built for macOS on Apple Silicon, Windows, and Linux. macOS on Apple Silicon gets the most testing during the beta, and there is no build for Intel Macs.
Check the download page for what is available right now, or use the web app. Details: Desktop app.
Speech and hosted AI
- Built-in speech is off. AuroraAI does not offer speech-to-text or text-to-speech during the beta.
- Speech with your own provider key works. Audio goes from your device to the provider you configure.
- AuroraAI chat is not included on every account. See Usage & billing.
Sync conflicts
Sync conflicts are uncommon in normal use. When the same thing was changed differently on two devices, Aurora does not merge it silently: it asks you to choose in Settings → Data & sync → Sync. Choose deliberately rather than overwriting another device's work. See Sync & storage.
Mobile and companion apps
The phone apps and the AuroraNotes and AuroraTasks companion apps are still being tested on real devices. Some phone workflows do not match the web or desktop app yet; see the mobile known limitations.
Still in progress
These parts are not finished, and we will not announce them as done until they are:
- More polish for resolving encrypted sync conflicts.
- Google Calendar and Microsoft 365 connections, which appear only when they are available. iCal feeds and CalDAV work today. See External calendars.
- Desktop builds for every platform, including Intel Macs.
- Paid plans and the full launch of AuroraAI.
